Interested in an animal science degree?
Animal science majors explore advances in animal feeding, breeding, reproduction and management techniques, as well as the health and welfare of animals. Students complete a set of core courses in breeding and genetics, nutrition, physiology and management.
As a major, animal science provides flexibility, allowing academic advisers to guide students through a program of study that is consistent with their interests and goals.
Scientific principles of biology and animal science are taught using horses, dairy cattle, beef cattle, swine, poultry, sheep and companion animals. Students apply classroom principles to animal science labs and the teaching and research centers on campus.
Students pursuing an animal science degree choose one of the following concentrations: animal industry; animal biology and preveterinary; companion and exotic animal biology; or production animal scholars.
Students may also complete this major through Lyman Briggs College.
ALUMNI PURSUITS
Graduates with an animal science degree regularly go on to veterinary schools, conduct further animal biology study and are also prepared to work in labs and in the field.
