This one-year degree provides Australian registered nurses and International students with the opportunity to upgrade their qualifications to a Bachelor's degree level. Please note that this degree does not lead to eligibility to apply for registration as a nurse in Australia.
Nurses play an important role in the healthcare system and are involved in a range of care activities that are designed to provide care for people with acute, chronic and complex health conditions. Nurses are integral in the treatment of individuals, families, communities and populations.
There is a forecasted growth of 25.1% within Health Care and Social Assistance and this brings exciting employment opportunities and career options. This degree
During this degree you will evaluate and apply concepts drawn from nursing theory and research to professional practice. You will develop an increased awareness of the effects of cultural, social, economic, legal and ethical influences on the development of the nursing profession and increased knowledge that will enable you to accept responsibility for more complex client management.
What you will study
You will study the core subjects of Promoting Clinical Excellence, Evidence Appreciation and Application in Health Care Practice, Leadership in Health Care Practice, and Community Development Nursing: Theory and Practice. In addition to these core subjects you will have the flexibility to choose elective subjects from a range of subjects on offer, including Family Centred Nursing, Therapeutic Use of Self, Contemporary Research in Practice, Cultural Competence in Health Care Practice, Therapeutics in Nursing, Challenges of Ageing and Practice Development, and Person Centred Nursing.

Applicants must be Registered Nurses, eligible for registration in New South Wales or their home country, and have obtained their initial qualification after 1972.
CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING
Certificated Registered Nurses:
Advanced standing of up to 24 credit points may be approved for candidates with post-certificate qualifications and experience. Academic advice is required.
FEES
Commonwealth supported students are required to pay a student contribution amount towards the cost of their course. The amounts are calculated based on the subject cluster and the Equivalent Full-time Study Load (EFTSL) value of the subject. For information regarding student contribution amounts, please refer to the UOW Current Students website.

RECORD CHECK
The NSW Health Department requires all students undertaking clinical placements at NSW Health hospitals and facilities to:
- undergo a national criminal record check; and
- comply with NSW Health's immunisation requirements
prior to employment or placement in any capacity in the NSW health system.
This criminal record clearance will be conducted by the NSW Police and/or the Australian Federal Police. Students are required to arrange for this check to be undertaken following enrolment, and the cost of the check will be their responsibility.
In addition, overseas students must also provide a Police Certificate from their home country/any country they have resided in, or a signed Statutory Declaration with no convictions/pending charges.
