Learning and Teaching

Most of the taught material is presented over two semesters. Some modules are shorter and are taught over one semester.

You may find yourself studying more in one semester than the other, depending on which modules you've chosen. You'll be taught alongside final year students from other degree courses for many of your modules.

Learn through a mix of formal lectures, small group tutorials and practical sessions in laboratories.

Prepare for classes by undertaking specified reading and practical work. Work collaboratively with fellow students in project groups.

Attend regular presentations from visiting professionals and find out about challenges and opportunities in the industry.

Assessment

Modules are usually assessed with a combination of exams and coursework. The coursework can vary from practical programming to written reports.

Typical offers

  • GCSE: Grade C/4 in English and Mathematics, or equivalent.
  • English Language Requirement: International and EU applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no component below 5.5 OR overall score of 6.0 with no more than one component at 5.5 (or approved equivalent*).

    *The university accepts a large number of UK and International Qualifications in place of IELTS. You can find details of acceptable tests and the required grades you will need in our English Language section. Please visit our English language requirements page.

  • Specific subjects: FdSc or HND in Computer Studies, Information Systems, Information Technology, Internet Technology or equivalent. You need an average of two-thirds Merits in your Final year.

Applicants are required to have an HND or Foundation Degree in Computer Studies, Information Systems or Information Technology (or similar), with an average of two thirds Merits in Final year.
