European Studies / European and Global Governance

PROGRAMME IS NOT RUNNING IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017!

The European Union profoundly shapes the way politics and democracy work in Europe and is an influential actor on the global stage. It is a fascinating political system, whose complex nature generates passions and controversies and is at the forefront of today's political debates.

This programme is designed to provide an advanced understanding of the EU within a global context to those wishing to specialise on European affairs and prepare for a career in the EU policy-making sphere or as a specialist on Europe in the rest of the world. It adopts a multi-disciplinary approach drawing from a wide range of courses in International Relations, Comparative Politics, and Law, with particular focus on the constitutional design, processes of decision-making, public policy analysis, and the role of the EU in the world. The programme benefits from the presence of the Global Europe Centre, a multidisciplinary research centre focussed on the study of Europe within a global context and draws on Kent's vast pool of expertise on European International Relations, Comparative Politics, and Law as well as the Centre for European Studies' high-level postgraduate courses on Foreign and Security Policy, Europeanisation and Transformation of Collective Identity, Economy of Central Europe and Democracy.
