Are you interested in developing, producing or marketing sophisticated technological products, all while greatly improving your job prospects on the global market? Then our Mechanical Engineering master’s programme is for you. 

This master course of study gives you a second degree which enables you to start your career right away and increases your career opportunities compared to having completed the bachelor degree alone. You will be taught in-depth knowledge and methods for engineers in different positions, ranging from product development to production and distribution as well as customer service. Thus, you will be enabled to independently work on optimum solutions. You will learn to utilize engineering  methods and findings of the latest state of technology as well as to develop new methods. In seminars and lectures you will experience exploratory learning and will use many of the 30 up-to-date laboratories of the faculty Technology and Bionics.

Due to the methodical education, our graduates will have access to many industry sectors. Positions in research and development, production, marketing, distribution and servicing of technical equipment could be your future career path, as well as management functions within the industry, the public sector or even the start-up of your own new enterprise.

In addition to general mechanical engineering you will qualify for a career in energy and environmental management, process engineering, electrical and electronic industry the automotive sector, medical engineering, automation engineering, aerospace, as well as in technical consulting and planning in special sectors. Furthermore, the master degree will qualify you for the conferral of a doctorate and will increase your chances to fill an interesting position in research and teaching.

Course Structure

The master course of study gives you plenty of choices which enables you to deepen the contents according to you talents and objectives, sharpening your personal qualification profile.

Therefore, you will choose one module package each from cluster A and B, containing 3 modules and 9 weekly semester hours each.

The Applied Research Project will prepare you for a successful master thesis. In addition to the optional modules you have chosen, you will obtain basic knowledge in the mandatory modules which are important for your career as a mechanical engineer in any of the focus fields.

The master course of study comprises 90 ECTS points, 40 of which are covered by the mandatory modules, 26 of which can be obtained in the optional modules and 24 ECTS points will be acquired through the master thesis and the colloquium.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Master Mechanical Engineering have the ability to identify, to analyze, and to find solutions for scientific and technical tasks. Through the acquisition of key qualifications the graduates are well prepared to work in teams and projects, and to communicate results and knowledge.

After finishing the study course the graduates receive the skills and ability that

  • technical competences have been improved and working in international organisations and companies is essential,
  • competences in engineering methods have been improved
  • gap in technical knowledge can be closed independently
  • working in interdisciplinary teams
  • products and processes can be improved with consideration of sustainability.
