Faculty of Mathematics and Science

We search for answers and strive to improve our understanding of the universe and the world around us. We want to share our expertise and help shape the future by solving problems which affect us all. We look for solutions that address climate change, fight the decline in biodiversity, develop new technological innovations and help build more sustainable living habits.

Overcoming challenges with science

Technological development and environmental changes have created a growing societal demand for the knowledge created by the University of Jyväskylä’s research in the natural sciences. Natural scientists and mathematicians play a central role in solving global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss and the need for sustainable technology.

Concern about the state of the environment and a desire to build a sustainable future is what brings the students of mathematics and science together. The Faculty of Mathematics and Science at JYU is a close-knit community, where you get support not only from your fellow students but also from lecturers and professors. Our research has an impact at the international level and our partners include the European Space Agency and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
