College of Law student working on laptop in library.The University of Wyoming’s Juris Doctor program provides a broad-based foundation for success. Whether a student chooses to enter the traditional practice of law, or to take a non-traditional career path, the firm doctrinal grounding offered at UW, coupled with our extensive opportunities for hands-on, “real world” experiences and individualized instruction, ensure that our students build the skills necessary to be successful in any of their professional endeavors upon graduation.

The JD program requires students to complete 90 credits for graduation. Of those 90 credits, 76 must be in graded courses. Students spend their first year taking required foundational courses in Contracts, Property, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Torts, and Legal Writing. Evidence and Professional Responsibility are required in the second year. Additionally, students must fulfill the advanced writing and experiential requirements for graduation.
