Chemical Engineering (BSChE)
Chemical engineers work to transform raw materials into products for the benefit and use of mankind. They may work in a variety of industries including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy and fuels, biotechnology, consumer products and foods and beverages.
Program Intro
CBU's undergraduate degree in chemical engineering will prepare students to use their background in mathematics, science, and engineering fundamentals in a variety of applications. Chemical engineers are highly sought after for their ability to problem solve, analyze and optimize complex systems, work over a wide range of scales and design and improve processes and products in a safe and sustainable way.

Why Study Chemical Engineering at CBU?
Research and study alongside professional engineers
CBU’s chemical engineering program is one of the only among faith-based schools. We emphasize hands-on experiences while integrating the Christian faith throughout the curriculum. Students research alongside faculty in our high-quality laboratories and some have presented their findings at the AIChE annual meeting.
Become career ready
Students are required to have internships and to complete a cross-cultural experience to sufficiently prepare them for their careers. We use curriculum partners to ensure that we meet the needs of industry. In class, students learn critical communication and teamwork skills that are vital for their future. Alumni have gone on to work at Genentech, Micron, Niagara Bottling and Alaska Omega Nutrition, among others.
Innovate and compete
CBU students participate in AIChE’s annual Chem-E-Car competition, where teams create and build a shoebox-sized vehicle that runs using one or more chemical reactions. In 2016, our team placed third in regionals and competed at nationals where it won the Golden Tire Award for the most unique design.
Have a cross-cultural experience
All engineering students are required to have a cross-cultural experience. This can be achieved several ways including participating in an International or Engineering Service Project (ISP or ESP), choosing a senior capstone project with cross-cultural emphasis, taking an approved intercultural studies course, or going on an approved study abroad.

What You'll Learn
CBU chemical engineering graduates are expected to acquire:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
- An ability to articulate a Christian worldview on personal, professional, technical, and societal issues
- An ability to develop attributes of leadership in an innovation-driven environment.
