Digital Arts and Design: Digital Sound Design (BS)

The Digital Arts and Design Digital Sound Design degree lays a solid foundation for a career in sound design, soundtrack production, music software/technology, digital sound design, and audio production. Learn conceptual and practical skills to design sounds used in music, entertainment, and software industries. Do this all with the newest technologies. 

Take core requirements that prepare you to work on multimedia design teams and give you opportunities for internships and research. At the end of your program, you will have valuable hands-on experience to work in a recording studio or a live concert venue—and everything in between.

Benefits of studying Digital Sound Design at DSU

Fluidity with industry Digital Audio Workstation (DAWs), computer sciences, and recording technologies are essential for success in the sound design and music industry. Furthermore, you’ll create audio for technology, animation, game design, advertising, and more.

Outside of class, digital sound design students are involved in a number of campus clubs and organizations. Students help with live concert set-ups at DSU Live, host recording sessions in the studio, and collaborate across campus in projects needing sound design (game, animation, film, etc.).

Career possibilities

Be trained in the science of sound, sound design, DAW’s, recording studio technology and techniques, live sound technology and techniques.  Through your undergraduate studies, you will also build your portfolio to launch your career in the professional world, or to continue studies at the graduate level.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the BS degree in Digital Arts and Design, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of design theory and practice.
  • Create visual or audio products requisite to industry standards.
  • Employ written and visual or auditory communication strategies designed to reach audiences and purposes. 
  • Analyze the quality of their work and the work of others.
  • Illustrate familiarity with historical achievements within art or sound design.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using digital design technologies to meet industry standards.
  • Produce sound design tailored to serve specific functions for different media.
