RESEARCH

Lines of Research

The three Lines of Generation and Application of Knowledge (LGAC, Spanish) were defined according to the evolution of the academic program and the training needs of researchers at a national and international levels. These three lines of research are the following:

1) FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY AND NUTRIGENOMICS

2) BIOPROCESS ENGINEERING

3) PHARMACEUTICAL AND MEDICAL BIOTECHNOLOGY.

Today, the program’s overall objective is for the graduates of the Ph. D. in Biotechnology (DBT) to be trained as scientists capable of producing innovative knowledge in order to establish cutting-edge technologies relevant to the biotechnology sector, with special emphasis in areas such as food, pharmaceutics, bioprocess engineering, and life sciences, which it is consistent with the research work being developed in the lines of research mentioned before. In addition, the Strategic Focus Research Groups (GIEE, Spanish) which are linked to the academic program, promote the development of research topics in the three lines of knowledge previously mentioned.

Academic productivity

The results of the research project that the student develops throughout the program are shown in national and international conferences. Likewise, such knowledge is reflected in scientific articles published in indexed scientific journals, patent applications, and other scientific products. The average number of articles published by the students enrolled in the program at the time of graduation is more than 2.5 articles per student. In the last 6 years, the average of indexed scientific articles published annually by the professors of the Basic Academic Nucleus is more than 3 articles per professor.

RELATION WITH OTHER SECTORS

The program has connections with different sectors, mainly from the academic and industrial sectors. This is carried out through collaborative schemes such as stays at academic / scientific institutions both nationally and internationally, co-counseling with professors from other institutions and the development of innovation-related projects with the industrial sector. There is collaboration with national universities and institutions, as well as international institutions located in North America, Central America, South America, and Europe.
