Master of Science in Industrial Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Northeastern focuses on optimizing and solving real world global challenges such as healthcare systems, energy systems, and resilience systems.

The Master of Science in Industrial Engineering applies mathematical modeling and analytical tools to make better decisions for designing and managing efficient and effective systems. Industrial Engineering is applied in many areas, including healthcare systems, supply chains, logistics and transportation engineering, manufacturing, sustainability, resilient systems, energy systems, and human-in-the loop systems.

Beyond Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, this department also offers other master's programs including Data Analytics Engineering, Human Factors, Operations Research, Energy Systems, and Robotics. Students have the opportunity to gain valuable research experience working alongside highly accomplished faculty. The College of Engineering has 17 research centers and institutes, such as the Center for High Rate Nanomanufacturing and the Healthcare Systems Engineering Institute, as well as many faculty laboratories.

Northeastern combines rigorous academics with experiential learning to prepare students for real world engineering challenges. Through our cooperative education (co-op) program, students gain industry experience in a wide variety of organizations, while helping to finance their education. Past co-op partners have included: Tesla, Bose, Mathworks, Wayfair and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
