The 5-year uniform Master of Science in Physiotherapy programme is offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences. It constitutes a comprehensive combination of knowledge and practical skills in such areas as kinesitherapy, physical therapy, balneotherapy, manual therapy, therapeutic massage, and special methods.

The curriculum covers theoretical and practical aspects of physical therapy methods based on various forms of physical energy occurring in the human environment, such as movement and thermal, mechanical, electrical, light, chemical, and other types of stimuli. Physiotherapy deals with eliminating the repercussions of disease, alleviating disease processes and their effects, and restoring human psychophysical efficiency. The curriculum also includes intra-year work placements during each academic year in physiotherapy and kinesitherapy clinics and hospital wards.

The programme includes such courses as: anatomy, physiology, pathology, biomechanics, kinesiology, physical therapy, neurophysiology, medical biology, manual therapy, orthopaedics, special massage, prosthetics and orthotics, genetic diseases, rehabilitation, clinical physiotherapy, disabled sports, rheumatology, movement education, balneology, spa therapy, functional diagnostics, pharmacology, and many others.

Graduates of  Physiotherapy program are prepared and competent to provide various therapeutic services, including systemic rehabilitation (after traumas, surgeries, in chronic diseases), pulmonary, neurological, cardiac and geriatric rehabilitation, or the treatment of children in coma. Physiotherapists are trained and qualified to work in hospitals and outpatient clinics, private clinics, sports clubs, recreation centers, spa centers, health resorts, or social care facilities – there are many career paths open to our graduates of Physiotherapy.

Speech bubble“The possibility to do clinical work placement at two teaching hospitals prepares us to deal with different situations and different diseases.
As a future physiotherapist, I greatly value the opportunity to explore the practical aspects of my profession in the university hospitals.
There is also a great variety of active student research clubs devoted to different areas of medicine, pharmacy and health sciences.
There’s something for every young scientist!”
Anna Maria, graduate of Physiotherapy

According to the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT), “Physiotherapy provides services to people and populations aiming to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout the lifespan”. Such services may only be provided by physiotherapists, or under their guidance and supervision. WCPT clearly states that, within the services provided, a physiotherapist is competent to carry out examinations, assessments, evaluations, functional diagnoses and prognoses, develop treatment programs, as well as perform follow-up patient assessment for the purposes of the administered therapeutic process.

In Poland, the profession of physiotherapy is regulated by the Act of 25 September 2015 on the profession of physiotherapy. Physiotherapy deals with preventing, eliminating and alleviating medical conditions and thus falls within the area of medical sciences. Because this field of study is methodologically related to the process of developing, maintaining and restoring maximum physical and functional efficiency, it also draws on the area of sport sciences. The area of health sciences covers knowledge related to behavioural and social sciences.
