Upon end of the studies student will receive a title: master in Social Sciences and Computing
The graduate study programme Social Sciences and Computing at the University of Belgrade is designed as a programme in which students who have finished undergraduate studies in some of the fields of social sciences (legal science, economics, philosophy, psychology, sociology, demography, etc.), would acquire the use of contemporary computing technologies in social sciences. Due to this, the programme has in its offer several courses related to the use of contemporary computing technologies, as well as more courses related to various fields of social sciences in which the use of contemporary computing technologies makes an important part. The total number of ECTS credits for this one-year study programme is 60. To enrol in this study programme, a student is assumed to have finished undergraduate studies in some fields of social studies and has earned 240 ECTS credits. All courses in this study programme last one semester. The curriculum includes 2 required courses, 3 elective courses, mandatory internship, qualification paper (term paper) and master thesis. All courses are worth 6 ECTS credits, the qualification paper 8 ECTS credits, internship 4 ECTS credits, and master thesis 15 ECTS credits.


Goals of study program

The objectives of the graduate academic study programme Social Sciences and Computing at the University of Belgrade are:
  • Improvement of theoretical and practical knowledge required for the students who have finished undergraduate studies at the faculties of social humanities orientation for work in their field, with intensive use of modern technologies;
  • Deepening of knowledge in the field of computing and quantitative methods, as well as mastery of application of modern software and Internet technologies in activities dedicated to experts from various fields of social sciences;
  • Enabling students at the undergraduate studies of one of social sciences to achieve a better insight into the way in which their disciplines develop today in the world, using current computer technologies;
  • Providing practical experience in using modern software packages and tools, Internet technologies and services which go beyond the basic use of computer, both in the individual engagement and team work, by involving students in current and new practical projects;
  • Providing a foundation for work on research activities, as well as further education through relevant PhD study programmes.


Outcome of study program



Prerequisite for attending study program

Considering the real capacity of the University of Belgrade, it has been decided that in order to provide high-quality teaching, 35 students should be enrolled in the study programme Social Sciences and Computing per year. It has been planned that those students enroll in September for the next academic year. The process of enrolment is conducted by the Programme Council of the Social Sciences and Computing study programme that includes the teachers from the faculties of the University of Belgrade that participate in the study programme. The enrolment of the candidates in the first year of the studies is conducted according to the public announcement published by the decision of the Senate of the University, and on the recommendation of the Council for university studies. Only students who have earned at least 240 ECTS credits during the undergraduate studies can be enrolled in this study programme. There are no constraints in terms of previously earned degree title from the undergraduate studies, but the students are expected to be familiar with some fields of social sciences. The students do not take a qualification exam. The list of applicants approved to enroll is created based on the candidates' GPA (achieved during undergraduate studies), the time they took to complete undergraduate studies, and the interviews to be conducted with the candidates. The maximum number of enrollees is 35.
