Agricultural Engineering Technology & Business

Our Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business (AETB) program prepares students for technical careers in agriculture, business, and land surveying. Our curriculum is characterized by a strong technical course base with business and finance-related courses added so that the graduate is uniquely qualified to work in industry/agriculture as a technical or business person. The program provides an educational opportunity for students interested in applying technical, business and management skills to problems in agricultural production, commodity-related and natural resource management. Our students have consistently had multiple job offers immediately after finishing their B.S. in AETB but some choose to continue in graduate/professional school in agribusiness, veterinary medicine, and other areas.

Employment for AETB graduates include: Food/Fiber Production (Farming), Agrochemical Industries, Agricultural Lending, Aquaculture, Banking, Cotton Ginning, Seed and Grain Processing, Crop Consulting, Agricultural Equipment Manufacturing and Sales, Farm Management, Engineering, Land Surveying, and Food Processing.

Flowcharts & Electives

Students may choose from four concentrations:

Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM)
Provides an enhanced background in resources conservation, hydrogeology, and water quality for students pursuing careers that require environmental training. This concentration is appropriate for students interested in developing skills to manage and solve problems in systems that impact our natural resources and the environment.

Precision Agriculture (PRAG)
Appropriate for students interested in developing skills in global positioning systems (GPS), geographical information systems (GIS), remote sensing, and digital mapping technologies. A few career paths for PRAG Technologists include: Precision Agriculture Specialist, Mapping/GIS Specialist, Crop Consulting and Equipment Test Engineer.

Enterprise Management (EMGT)
Appropriate for students interested in acquiring the skills to solve problems for a wide variety of systems, and to manage an agricultural or business enterprise. Students will get a broad foundation in the management of machine systems, electricity, soil and water conservation, precision agriculture, biorenewables and animal production systems.

Surveying and Geomatics (SGEO)
Provides students with the necessary prerequisites to begin a three-step process (academic training, supervised surveying experience, testing) to become a registered Land Surveyor in Mississippi. Employment opportunities for registered land surveyors in Mississippi are exceptional and include an extensive number of land surveying and engineering firms as well as local, state, and federal government agencies.
