Special Education: Assistive Technology

Assistive technology is one of the fastest-growing segments of the expanding health and human services field. You can effect deep and meaningful change – and improve your career prospects – with a master’s degree from BGSU in special education with a specialization in assistive technology.

Access to assistive technology enables people with disabilities to participate more fully in their homes, schools and communities. Many assistive technologies are available, from simple mechanical and daily living aids to high-tech, computer-driven systems that can open up communication and facilitate integration.

A certificate in assistive technology is embedded into the master’s program or available as a stand-alone certificate.

NOTE: This program does not lead to an initial teacher license.

I really liked the flexibility of choosing which classes I wanted to take and how many to take at one time. This was helpful as I worked full time. The coursework and assignments gave me the opportunity to take what I was learning and put it into practice immediately. I loved that the professors let you choose what you wanted to focus on and emphasized choosing projects that would help you in your daily work as an educator.
