This Master Degree contributes to the advanced training of professionals, providing them with technical and scientific knowledge for enhancing their skills in the analysis, interpretation and understanding of the functioning of markets and corporate decisions. It combines different scientific areas and prepares for the transfer of applicable and relevant knowledge to the fields of industrial and firm economics​.​​

Specialization Diploma: Completing the academic part of the course guarantees you the opportunity to apply for your Specialization Diploma in Industrial and Firm Economics.

Description


The Master in Industrial and Firms Economics aims to attract students with a strong background in Economics, Management and related scientific areas, who are looking to become specialists in the area of industrial and firms economics and develop knowledge and skills in the analysis of markets and understanding the determinats of business performance.
This Master programme prepares future professionals to work as specialists in industrial and firms’ economics through an advanced training in industrial and firms’ economics.
The programme provides:
a) advanced training in industrial and firms’ economics for students who want to acquire knowledge and skills that are suitable for functioning in consulting firms, multinational companies, international organizations or at the national policy.
b) students a solid understanding of the region and country’s economy and the potential for economic development. The topics studied in students’ dissertations, reports and projects as well as their results will be disseminated to the interested public.
c) activities in the curricula such as workshops or group training programs especifically aimed at transferable skills development.

Key learning outcomes


1. The programme aims that future professionals acquire advanced knowledge in industrial and firms’ economics.
2. It prepares future professionals to work as economists in private or public enterprises or to start their own businesses.
3. It also prepares students to conduct basic independent research projects in Industrial and Firms Economics.
4. It also promotes a critical evaluation of ideas, arguments, and points of view in the study of the industrial and firms.
5. The programme also empowers students to integrate knowledge and study the complex issues that arise in markets and firms’ activities.
6. It also aims at promoting the potential for innovation through an advanced human capital formation and dissemination of research results to the interested public.

Access to higher education


The master in Industrial and Firms Economics provides students with the adequate background to pursue PhD studies in the area of Economics.

Career opportunities for this master’s graduates can be found in a wide range of institutions: in the private sector, the non-profit sector and the public sector. Students of this master will acquire knowledge and skills that are suitable for working in consulting firms, multinational companies, international organizations or at the national policy making level. This master also prepares future professionals to start their own businesses. And it enables access to doctoral programmes for students wishing to pursue a career in scientific research. Formal requirements


- All holders of a degree or legal equivalent in Economics, Management, Public Administration, International Relations, International Business, or other, provided they demonstrate appropriate expertise in the fields of theory of industrial economics and business;
- Students with degrees in Economics, Management and International Business have more weight compared to other degrees.
- Holders of a foreign academic degree in one of the areas specified in the preceding paragraph, awarded on completion of a first cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State acceding to this process;
- Holders of a foreign academic degree in one of the areas specified in the first paragraph, which is recognized as meeting the objectives of a degree by the Scientific Council of the School of Economics and Management, University of Minho.
