Description


The main purpose of the Master in Sustainable Construction and Rehabilitation is to develop knowledge about sustainable construction and sustainable rehabilitation to students with a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture or in similar areas in a way that is not available in other degrees and masters in Engineering or Architecture, being organized in a succesful project-oriented combination of theoretical, practical and experimental education.
This cycle of studies has the normal duration of 2 academic years and consists of a total of 120 ECTS, spread over 4 semesters.
The curricular part takes place during the first two semesters and the dissertation takes place in the third and fourth semesters.
The achievement of the Specialization Diploma entails the attainment of 60 ECTS, corresponding to the academic part that takes place during the first two semesters.
The achievement of the Master's Degree in Sustainable Construction and Rehabilitation entails the attainment of 120 ECTS.

Key learning outcomes


It is intended that the student:
1. Acquire advanced technical and scientific competences in sustainable construction and sustainable rehabilitation, in what concerns with the use, design, development of new sustainable products, processes and technologically advanced building systems which ensure the sustainability of the construction and/or the rehabilitation of buildings during their life cycle.
2. Be a highly qualified professional, possessing knowledge, abilities and skills of permanent value in the Construction sector, with ease integration in the type of companies and organizations required by the current evolution of societies.
3. Be able to solve challenges and problems in a structured and rigorous way, setting them in the respective technical-scientific, economic, social and environmental contexts.
4. To have a proactive attitude towards change, placing it in the context of economic development and international competitiveness.
5. Have the ability to communicate succinctly and rationally the results of their work to technical and/or general audiences.
6. Acquire the leadership and entrepreneurship spirit, ability to do team work and in networks and acquire the citizenship awareness and eco-sustainable attitudes.

Access to higher education


This Master's course provides the basic education for the application to a 3rd cycle program (PhD) in the same scientific area or in other areas. For example, the Doctoral Program in Sustainable Built Environment.

- To perform technical functions in the areas of Sustainable Construction and Sustainable Rehabilitation in construction companies.
- To perform technical functions in the areas of Sustainable Construction and Sustainable Rehabilitation in Municipalities.
- To perform technical functions in the areas of Sustainable Construction and Sustainable Rehabilitation in Engineering and/or Architectural offices.
- Teaching (high education institutions).

Formal requirements


The applicants to the Master degree in Sustainable Construction and Rehabilitation must have a degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Sciences in Civil Engineering or similar areas. They could also have an equivalent degree.
