Design Sustainable Solutions to Protect our Planet With an Environmental Engineering Degree from Gannon University

Step into the great outdoors with Gannon’s environmental engineering program. With the university's proximity to Lake Erie, students gain hands-on experience in the environment and learn to design sustainable solutions to the challenges of our time. Join the fight for a better world and pursue a career where you can make a difference shaping a brighter future for our planet.

  • Gain practical experience, taking classroom learning outdoors.
  • Earn a degree that is nationally accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
  • Collaborate with real-world agencies and organizations on research, internships and project opportunities.

Learn to Lead the Way in Environmental Engineering

  • Learn fundamental science and engineering principles to understand environmental systems and human impact.
  • Apply scientific and engineering theories to real-world problems, such as water quality issues in the Great Lakes region, human health risks from airborne contaminants and more.
  • Experience internships, service-learning projects, field experiences and career exploration.

Experience an Exceptional Learning Environment

  • Take your classroom experience outdoors. Gannon’s proximity to Lake Erie offers unique research and field experiences conducting air, water and soil sampling.
  • Explore the world through travel courses and semester abroad opportunities for course credit.
  • Design solutions to solve real-world environmental problems in the senior design course and present your project at regional professional conferences.
ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission

Gannon's Environmental Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Environmental Engineering and Similarly Named Programs Program Criteria.

Inspire your Academic Success

Gain real-world knowledge through key environmental engineering courses including:

Water Quality Lab: Use equipment and techniques to assess quality parameters of surface and ground water.

Environmental Toxicology Lab: Gain experience collecting and analyzing air, water and soil samples. Activities have included conducting water quality monitoring onboard the research vessel, RV Environaut.

Water and Waste Water Treatment Lab: Study an engineering approach to water quality protection and the principles and design of systems for treating municipal drinking and waste water.

Achieve the Possibilities

  • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for environmental engineers is $92,120.
  • Complete internships in various industries prior to graduation, including opportunities at engineering consulting firms and Wabtec Corp.
  • Participate in field trips, internships and senior design projects through the program’s strong ties with local industry and governmental agencies.
  • Approximately 90% of environmental engineering graduates are employed in the field one year after graduation.
