Biochemistry

About the Biochemistry Major

Biochemistry is the study of living organisms and their biological processes. You will study macromolecules such as carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins. Students interested in both chemistry and biology can find a great compromise with a major that bridges the gap between the two and overlaps molecular biology and genetics as well. Practice research techniques, understand data interpretation, and dig deeper into an exciting field of science.

  • CHM 201: Organic Chemistry I
  • CHM 202: Organic Chemistry II
  • CHM 210: Quantitative Analysis
  • CHM 307: Physical Chemistry: Thermodynamics and Kinetics
  • BCH 316: Biochemistry
  • BCH 316L: Laboratory Studies in Biochemistry
  • BCH 416: Biochemistry of Metabolism
  • BCH 425: Advanced Topics in Biochemistry
  • CHM 445: Advanced Laboratory Techniques I (Senior Capstone Experience)
  • CHM 446: Advanced Laboratory Techniques II
  • 3 additional credit hours in CHM or BIO
  • PHY 101: General Physics I
  • PHY 102: General Physics II
  • MTH 222:Calculus I
  • 6 additional credit hours (300 and 400 level) in chemistry or biochemistry
