Master of Science in Engineering Advanced expertise in Computer Science

Students in the master's program are individually supported by an advisor who is an expert in the chosen field of study.

Your advisor will help you to put together a personalized study program and accompany you throughout your studies. Moreover, you will complete your specialization projects and the final master's thesis as part of your advisor’s own research projects. Registration for the master's program requires the consent of your advisor. Advisors are assigned to specific profiles and listed on the respective profile pages.

Prospective students can register for the Master of Science in Engineering online and are required to meet certain admission criteria:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study (depending on the profile)
• Excellent average grade score in the relevant bachelor's modules
• Advisor's consent to supervise the student

Students are recommended to consult the head of program before registration to discuss admission criteria. Once the registration is confirmed, the students and their advisors jointly develop an Individual Study Agreement (ISA) in which they set out the program’s thematic focus, the time model, module selection, and the focus of each research project.

The Master of Science in Engineering is a joint offering by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts with other Swiss universities of applied sciences. The program is equivalent to 90 ECTS credits. One third of the modules are classic lectures, while two-thirds are specific to the chosen specialization and include research projects and supplementary events. Together with your advisor, you will create a module program according to your interests. There are three categories of lecture modules, a certain number of which must be chosen from each category: technical-scientific modules (min. 12 ECTS), advanced theoretical foundations (min. 9 ECTS) and context modules (min. 6 ECTS). A total of 30 ECTS credits must be selected from this module group.

Specialization: Two specialization projects worth 12 and 18 ECTS and the final master's thesis worth 30 ECTS. You will complete the specialization at the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology in Rotkreuz, supporting your advisor’s current research and development projects. You will jointly define the specific design of these projects with your advisor. It is possible to reduce specialization projects in scope and combine them with supplementary events (SEs) instead.

There are no fixed time models; you will create your curriculum with your advisor according to your needs. You are required to complete the master's program within seven semesters. We recommend you work no more than 0.6 FTE during your studies. Ask your advisor about open assistant positions at the School of Computer Science and Information Technology.

Full-time option: MSE program lasting three semesters and without concurrent employment.

Part-time option: MSE program lasting five to seven semesters with concurrent part-time employment.
