The Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies program at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem includes a rigorous Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) curriculum. Courses are taught by leading scholars and students enjoy the added benefit of living in Jerusalem, a city in which 35% of the inhabitants are native Arabic speakers.

Faculty & Research

The Hebrew University’s faculty in the Department of Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies includes accomplished scholars from around the world.

Dr. Tawfiq Da’adli is the academic head of the M.A. program. As an archeologist in Jerusalem, Dr. Da‘adli has studied the Mamilla Cemetery, the al-Qaymuriyya Mausoleum, the quarters around the Cotton Merchants Market, and the Beit HaBad Market. He is also an art historian and lecturer in the Departments of Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies and Art History, Dr. Da’adli teaches courses in Islamic archaeology, art and architecture in Israel and the Muslim world.
