This Contemporary Literature, Culture and Theory MA studies the intersection of literature, culture and theory since 1945. You’ll explore a range of texts and concepts from the late 20th and early 21st centuries and get to look at little-studied texts produced after 1999. Through a combination of required and optional modules, you’ll get to tailor your syllabus and specialise in cutting-edge topics such as new directions in gender and race theory, the intersection of aesthetics and politics in relation to transparency and secrecy, theories and histories of violence, and performance studies. You could also explore themes like imperialism and sexuality, realism and its others, emerging concepts of the human, Marxist theories of value, and urban culture, while also considering literary production after 1999, contemporary experimental poetry, and beyond.
