Entrepreneurship and Innovation Major

Program Description

Menlo College offers the unique opportunity to study entrepreneurship in the center of the world’s top innovation hub: Silicon Valley. The Entrepreneurship and Innovation major at Menlo College prepares students for a broad variety of careers in the entrepreneurship field. This includes but is not limited to starting a new business, taking over an already existing business, creating and launching innovations in new and established businesses, or working for supporting organizations such as consulting businesses, venture capitalists, startup incubators and accelerators. Next to learning the basics of entrepreneurship and innovation in the core curriculum, the major provides students with the opportunity to customize their learning experience through a variety of electives. Here important areas are technology as well as social entrepreneurship and sustainability. In addition, courses offer insights into the world of Silicon Valley and what it means to start and grow a business in this unique environment.

Program Learning Outcomes

– Students learn what it means to be an entrepreneur and to behave entrepreneurially.

– Students understand how the concepts of entrepreneurship and innovation can be applied to different firm types such as startups, small companies, as well as established and large corporations.

– Students grasp the importance and challenges of starting and running social and sustainable enterprises.

– Students learn about the special role of Silicon Valley as an entrepreneurial environment.

Business Core Description

The Business Core covers a set of foundational required courses in business academic programs. These courses are designed to provide students with a broad understanding of various business disciplines, including accounting, finance, marketing, operations management, organizational behavior, business ethics, and business law.

By completing the Business Core requirements, students will have a solid foundation in business that can help them succeed in their future careers or pursue further education in specialized business areas.
