Finance Major

Program Description

The Finance Major is designed for the student who would like a career in corporate finance, banking, venture capital, or the financial markets. Due to the quantitative nature of the field, a substantial background in mathematics is required.

Program Learning Outcomes

– Students will be able to identify, collect, synthesize and present relevant publicly-available information and conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of a company’s financial performance and valuation.

– Students will learn and be able to present different project valuation techniques and criteria used for project acceptance/rejection decisions and how to apply the appropriate cost of capital to projects.

– Students will be able to analyze and present financial decisions made by various types of firms in real life business environment and relate these decisions to theoretical concepts covered in the classroom.

– Students will learn different security valuation techniques and selection criteria for different sources of capital. They will learn how to calculate a company’s cost of capital and ways to minimize it.

Business Core Description

The Business Core covers a set of foundational required courses in business academic programs. These courses are designed to provide students with a broad understanding of various business disciplines, including accounting, finance, marketing, operations management, organizational behavior, business ethics, and business law.

By completing the Business Core requirements, students will have a solid foundation in business that can help them succeed in their future careers or pursue further education in specialized business areas.
