About the programme

The design of new sustainable processes, materials and chemical products – such as pharmaceuticals with tailored properties – requires an understanding of the synthesis and physical/chemical properties of substances, as well as the relationship between structure and properties.

The programme in Applied Chemistry at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) provides you with broad knowledge of the design of advanced materials – at both theoretical and experimental level – through courses covering the chemistry, synthesis, physical chemistry and production of such materials.

You will have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with both Danish and international companies – either as part of the courses, as an individual project or while writing your thesis.

Career Opportunities

The MSc in Applied Chemistry provides excellent scope for employment in either private or public companies.

The study programme has an extensive focus and offers a wide variety of courses which—depending on the courses chosen—can qualify you for jobs in the chemical industry (including catalysts and polymers) and the pharmaceutical industry. Some ‘Applied Chemistry’ graduates are expected to pursue a PhD, thereby qualifying for research positions in the above-mentioned industries.

During the programme, you will carry out several projects in collaboration with leading Danish and foreign companies. This will open up the opportunity for exciting jobs in companies working with polymers as well as pharmaceutical and chemical products. Furthermore, you might get the opportunity to continue your studies and do a PhD, for instance at DTU.

Graduates are employed by the following companies, among others:

  • Danisco
  • Novozymes
  • Coloplast
  • Hempel
  • Rockwool
  • Haldor-Topsøe
  • Lundbeck

Some of them also find employment in the public sector, for instance in teaching.
