• Why study this program?

  The Graduate Certificate in Catholic Leadership is a formal course focused explicitly on the impact that the Catholic faith and values have on leadership for the common good. A unique collaboration between our School of Business and our School of Philosophy & Theology, this postgraduate program embraces today’s rapidly-changing global environment while maintaining academic rigour and nourishing the service-oriented mission of Catholic organisations.

  Devoted to the practical application of Catholic leadership values, this program will enable you to critically apply your understanding and practice of the Catholic faith to the leadership of organisations. You will also be expected to analyse management's theoretical principles and practical roles within a Catholic institution.

  Upon graduation, you will be able to apply your learnings on leadership and management practices to service-oriented Catholic organisations. Alternatively, if you wish to continue your studies, you can progress with a Master of Leadership, Master of Business Administration, Master of Education (Leadership & Management) or Master of Arts (Theology).

• Program summary

  The Graduate Certificate in Catholic Leadership comprises four courses:

  • Catholic Mission & Identity
  • Leadership & Management in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition
  • Leading Change in a Catholic Context
  • Ethical Issues in Professional Life OR Directed Business Project

  The course is available part-time and students are able to complete all four courses in one year if they wish.

  The first three listed courses involve a four-day intensive workshop on Campus. The first course will be offered in Summer Term; the second course will be offered to align with the WA (where possible) school holidays or in the non-teaching break in Semester 1; and the third course will be offered in Winter Term. For all courses, additional blended learning requirements are in place, with resources provided online via the Blackboard Learning Portal. For the final course students can study Professional Ethics oriented course or complete a Directed Research Project.

• Entry requirements

  • A recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification), plus a minimum of three years’ experience in managerial and/or supervisory roles, or
  • Sufficient background and/or experience in management/supervision; and the skills necessary to complete postgraduate studies, as determined by the Dean.

• Learning outcomes

  Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Catholic Leadership graduates will be able to:

  1. Critically apply their knowledge, understanding and practice of the Catholic faith tradition to the leadership and management of service-oriented Catholic organisations
  2. Analyse the theoretical principles contemporary leadership and management concepts to the practical roles of leadership and management within service-oriented Catholic organisations
  3. Integrate their theoretical and practical understanding of contemporary change management concepts to organisational transformation within the context of service-oriented Catholic organisations; and
  4. Apply leadership and management practices to enable the effective functioning of serviceoriented Catholic organisations.

• Career opportunities

  A Graduate Certificate in Catholic Leadership will enable you to apply learnings of leadership and management practices to service-oriented Catholic organisations such as high schools and primary schools.

• Real-world experience

  You will learn from our academics, who are leaders in their field. There are no practicum requirements for this program.
