What is a fine art degree?

At Park University, our fine art program is designed to provide an educational experience for you to develop technical skills, critical and aesthetic judgment, and a sound knowledge of the visual arts. If you aspire to launch or advance your career in fine art, or want to develop a general appreciation of the arts, pursuing a fine art degree may be the right choice for you.

Locations & Learning Options

As a fine art student in our Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts program, you will be required to take face-to-face classes at our Parkville, Missouri campus.

The Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art degree requires a minimum of 122 completed credit hours, including 48 hours of degree-specific core curriculum and approved electives in your area of concentration. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Art degree requires a minimum of 120 completed credit hours, including 75 hours of degree-specific core curriculum and approved electives in your area of concentration. Refer to your catalog for a complete listing of coursework for this degree. We also offer a minor in art history.

Students in the fine art program learn to develop technical skills, aesthetic judgment and a sound knowledge of the visual arts.

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Art complete a common group of foundation and art history courses and then choose an emphasis area to develop a solid yet individualized program.

Students in the fine art program who wish to earn certification to teach K-12 art education declare a double major in education and fine art.

While pursuing either the Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art degree or the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Art degree, you may select from one of the following areas of concentration: photography, painting, drawing, fiber or ceramics. You may also choose to pursue internships, independent study, and special topics in art and design. Our fine art degree programs can help equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a career in fine art, in a museum or gallery setting, and other fields in which fine art is valued.
