Geography is much more than memorizing state capitals or learning to plot points on a map. Geography as an academic discipline studies the spatial dimensions of (and links between) culture, society and Earth’s environment. We consider it to be the original spatial science. Some geographers describe the field simply (yet appropriately) as the study of the “why of where” – not just the study of “where.”

Geography is the only discipline at Park University to span both the social and natural sciences. In this program, you’ll learn to explore and analyze the multitude of connections and relationships between virtually every place and space on Earth.

geography Program Highlights

This field is truly interdisciplinary by its very nature. It explores a wide spectrum of topics, so we designed our program to give you the flexibility to select coursework that best suits your interests.

Culture and context

As a Geography major at Park University, you’ll get a thorough foundation in geographic and spatial analysis principles. You’ll study cultural as well as physical geography, as well as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) – the technology of mapping and analyzing geographic data. This broad background is presented within a framework that bridges the humanities, social sciences and physical sciences.

In this program, we aim to help develop future leaders for society. Our graduates can understand and explain global political issues that occur between countries, cultures, cities, and between regions within countries.

Gamma Theta Upsilon Honor Society

Once you’ve completed at least three semesters (or five quarters) of coursework, taken a minimum of three Geography courses and have a GPA of at least 3.3 overall, you can join the Park University chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the International Geographic Honor Society. The Society promotes Geography knowledge and awareness through meetings and various activities throughout the year.
