PROGRAMME INFORMATION

Europe has a long history of intensive use of natural resources and lessons on misuse and overuse of land and water resources. This has forced Europeans to pay strong attention to environmental deterioration and ecosystem vulnerability. Europe is therefore at the cutting edge with respect to environmental research, its use in monitoring, control, legislation, policy and management actions, and development of environmental technology.

This programme, which is a collaboration between four renowned European universities, gives you in-depth knowledge about the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources. All this studied with an international perspective based on environmental planning, management, assessment, research and sustainable development.

The programme has six different specialisations to choose from; three of these are available at SLU: - water resources, - soil resources and land use and - environmental management. You will study your first year at one of the EnvEuro universities and your second year at another, giving you a Master’s degree from both universities.

Attracting students from all over the world, the EnvEuro programme will also give you the opportunity to build up a large network of contacts for the future. With a double Master's degree in environmental science, you will be able to work as an environmental science expert at universities, in governmental agencies, the private sector or NGOs — both in your home country or overseas. You will also be well equipped to continue your studies towards a PhD for a career.

What makes the international Master's programme EnvEuro unique?

  • You will earn a double degree in environmental science, with a European perspective.
  • You will study at two top universities in Europe, with a large selection of courses to tailor your studies.

EnvEuro is a joint Master’s programme conducted by SLU Uppsala, Sweden, the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, the University of Hohenheim, Germany and BOKU, Vienna, Austria. In their first year, students will study at their “home university” – which will be SLU if you are going to apply to the programme here. In the second year, students switch to one of the EnvEuro partner universities where they will also conduct their Master thesis project.

The programme contains the compulsory distance course Environmental Management in Europe which is taken by all programme students during the first semester. However, the course begins with a compulsory physical meeting in connection with the ELLS conference. At this meeting, students will be able to meet other students, teaching staff and administrators from all four universities.

In the first semester, students select basic courses from a wide range of subjects, however the range vary depending on the chosen EnvEuro specialisation (see the EnvEuro consortium's website). SLU offers the following specialisations: - water resources, - soil resources and land use and - environmental management.

In the second semester, students select courses within their chosen specialisation. The third semester is spent at one of the partner universities where students will continue with the same or a different specialisation.

In the final semester, students will complete their Master thesis project. Students will be awarded a double degree in environmental science issued by both the home and host university.

Information about the partner universities, courses and specialisations can be found on the EnvEuro web pages.
