About the programme

The EUDIPLO Master provides analytical and negotiation skills through evidence-based studies and practical project work in the three major topics of the programme: Sustainability & Climate, Trade & Investment, Digital Cooperation.

The academic curriculum focuses on how to act, reflect and participate in strategic trade and climate policy negotiations between Europe and other geopolitical powers, with a wide range of economic and digital intelligence tools.

Overview of the academic year

Live in Rome, Berlin and Nice and learn how Climate and Trade Policies are the major instruments of transnational relations in the 21st Century.

The Joint Master in EU Trade & Climate Diplomacy is a one-year programme that takes place in three different cities:

October to January: Rome (Italy)
The programme starts in Rome, on the campus of LUISS, School of Government. Courses will give an introduction to the EU Governance, focusing on the context and challenges of European Foreign Action and policy in the 21st century.

February to April: Berlin (Germany)
The programme continues in Berlin, in the CIFE premises. Teaching will be concentrating on EU Climate Diplomacy and its ambition to climate leadership in the context of the EU Green Deal.
A study trip to a diplomatic hub such as Brussels gives insight knowledge into EU Diplomacy and interaction with high-level lecturers, experts and diplomats.

April to June: Nice (France)
Courses conclude in Nice, in CIFE’s main premises. A special focus will be laid on EU Trade & Investment Diplomacy. Students will attend courses on Trade Diplomacy, External Investment for SDGs, AI, Big Data and Digitalised Governance, Innovative Forms of Collaborative Action in the Digital society. As part of their academic requirements, students will complete a final Master thesis.

Programme structure & learning outcomes

Stretching over one academic year the programme is structured into four modules. Throughout the whole curriculum in Rome, Berlin and Nice students will participate in networking meetings with national and international government officials, private sector representatives and leading academics organised by LUISS School of Government in Rome and by CIFE in Berlin and Nice.

1. EU Governance in Rome at LUISS School of Government in Rome

Learn the context and challenges of European Foreign Action and policy in the 21st century while attending the following courses:

  • Democracy and Global Governance: European Politics after 1945
  • European Macroeconomics
  • Reforming European Institutions and Democracy
  • Policies and Policymaking in the EU
  • The EU External Action

2. EU Climate Diplomacy in Berlin at CIFE in Berlin

Study critical EU diplomacy and sustainable development relations such as climate policy in major bilateral and multilateral relations:

  • Sustainable Development
  • Science Diplomacy
  • New Climate Diplomacy and EU Climate Action
  • Sharing Economy and Socially-Just Ecological Transition

3. EU Trade Diplomacy at CIFE in Nice

Investigate how far trade and its connectivity through infrastructure and digital services help to advance foreign relations and exchanges towards Sustainable Development Goals:

  • Trade Diplomacy and Agreements
  • Investment Policy for SDGs
  • Europe’s AI and Digital Connectivity
  • Innovative Forms of Collaborative Action in the Digital Society

4. Applied Research Methodology, case studies, simulation exercises and skills workshops throughout the whole curriculum in Rome, Berlin and Nice
