Information Society Technologies

This doctoral programme provides conditions for preparing specialists with the highest scientific qualification in ICT area. It supports development of research based and innovative approaches for working on appropriate positions as well as readiness for continuous personal professional development and supports development of competences for working on academic positions (researcher, lecturer) or as senior specialist in public, private or third sector.

The graduate:

  • is an internationally known specialist in an ICT problem area;
  • has exhaustive knowledge and skills in the narrower area of the PhD thesis;
  • can use adequate scientific methods and technologies for determining as well as analysing and solving ICT related problems;
  • can compose high level scientific and popular publications and presentations;
  • can work in a multinational team and as a team leader, involve different partners;
  • possesses necessary communication skills;
  • can find innovative and adequate solutions in changing and unexpected situations;
  • is independent and responsible when analysing, diagnosing, making decisions and implementations;

Tallinn University School of Digital Technologies is the only institution in Estonia that focuses on ‘soft’ information and communication technologies including social media applications, digital learning ecosystems, interaction design, workplace learning and other related fields. How to apply for a PhD at the School of Digital Technologies

The admission exam (interview) is based on the plan for the doctoral thesis that is agreed upon with the prospective supervisor. The admission interview is conducted at Tallinn University or via video call after the application deadline.
