Why study Occupational Safety and Ergonomics?
This interdisciplinary course of study includes classes is offered with courses from the Department of Environmental Health (DEH) in the College of Medicine and the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Nuclear Engineering (MINE) in the College of Engineering & Applied Sciences. The curriculum is designed to provide dual emphasis on the health and engineering aspects of ergonomics and safety, and to prepare the students to meet the current and future ergonomic/safety concerns of the workforce. In general, a student with an undergraduate engineering degree will apply for admission into OSE through MINE while those with majors in medical sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, psychology and management will apply through the DEH. Students are encouraged to take as many elective courses as possible from both departments in order to ensure broad based training in both the engineering and the health aspects of ergonomics and safety.

- Unofficial transcripts for ALL higher education institutions attended
- Three Letters of Recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic or professional background.
- GRE, GMAT, and/or MCAT scores
- The Admissions Review Committee will take into account many factors for admissions decisions. Official GRE, GMAT, or MCAT scores should be at the 50th percentile or better.
- International applicants whose native language is not English (please refer to the International Office's English Proficiency Requirement, https://grad.uc.edu/fac-staff/handbook/graduate-admission/international-admission/english.html) must take the TOEFL exam and submit official scores directly from the testing agency of a minimum of 580(paper), 237(computer), or 100(internet) to be considered for the program. The above website also gives a list of additional exams and certificates that are approved by the University.
- International transcripts should be evaluated by WES.
- Official transcripts of all colleges and universities must be submitted if accepted to the program. These must be official, therefore copies cannot replace official records from higher educational institutions attended.

The deadlines for complete applications for each semester are as follows:
- Fall - July 1st
- Spring - November 1st
Only students applying to the full-time programs in Occupational Safety and Ergononmics are eligible to receive University Graduate Assistantship funding. This funding in not available for our part-time MS or PhD programs in Occupational Safety and Ergonomics. Funding is generally only available in the Fall semester and any application to be considered for funding must be completely submitted by February 1st.
