Master of Exercise Science - Thesis and Coursework

The Master of Exercise Science (thesis and coursework) will expose you to advanced level units within the various sub-disciplines that are informed by the latest research developments and contemporary professional practice. As part of this learning, you will acquire knowledge of the process and conduct research in the biological and behavioural sciences as this applies to the field of Exercise Science.

In addition to the learning of cognitive and research skills involved in these advanced level units, several units involve learning of advanced technical and measurement skills through tutorials and laboratories. Most core and elective units for this degree offer, at the graduate level, opportunities for you to plan, prepare and conduct small research projects, and then analyse these data and report findings in both written and oral formats. For the thesis component, skills in literature searching, synthesising the results of these published papers and comparing one's own data within this context are embedded.

• In addition to learning cognitive skills involved in these advanced level units, several units involve learning advanced technical and measurement skills through tutorials and laboratories. Most core and elective units for this degree offer, at the graduate level, opportunities for students to plan, prepare and conduct small research projects, and then analyse the data and report findings in both written and oral formats
• Skills in literature searching, synthesising the results of these published papers and comparing one's own data within this context are embedded in many of these units of study
• You’ll have the opportunity to execute small research projects within many of the units for this degree. This avenue may then be extended for superior students with the opportunity to undertake up to four units of research provided you achieve the pre-requisites for this pathway. The requirement of an industry practicum for all students provides you the opportunity to relate your newly acquired knowledge and skills in an industry setting with an experienced host or mentor

Exercise services, including individual and group programs, are provided by Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP) and Physiotherapists.

Upon presentation to the EPC, an initial assessment is conducted including client interview and a physical assessment to identify history and goals. Following the assessment, recommendations, education and other services are provided to suit your exercise and lifestyle.

A variety of clinical programs are run each week through EPC, providing a tailored and supportive environment for clients. Specific programs target a range of health goals, cardiometabolic disease, musculoskeletal pain or injury, cancer, healthy aging, and more.

The EPC is linked with the School of Human Sciences providing clinical training to postgraduate students undertaking the Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology.
