This Modern Languages and Literatures program at University of Winnipeg will enrich your education, and many can be used to fulfill the University’s Distribution and Humanities Requirements.
Students from any degree program may choose to study a language as a part of their university studies. The courses may be especially relevant if you have an interest in language learning for the purposes of cultural exposure, international travel and/or work, or more specialized study in a particular field such as History, Religion, or Philosophy. In all of the courses, you will gain knowledge and competence in oral and written skills while learning to appreciate the richness and diversity of culture.
The University of Winnipeg offers:
- The classical languages Greek and Latin through the Classics Department;
- Chinese, Japanese, and Korean through the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures;
- Cree and Ojibwe through the Department of Indigenous Studies;
- French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch through the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures;
- Mennonite Low German through the Mennonite Studies Program;
- Arabic and Biblical Hebrew through the Department of Religion and Culture.
