Mathematics Snapshot

Beyond the Classroom

Opportunities for mathematics majors to excel at W&J begin in the classroom and extend into off-campus experiences at conferences and internships that help students build a professional network while developing their skills.

The Department of Mathematics has funded students’ travel to present their research at conferences across the country, including the national Joint Mathematics Meetings, hosted each year by The American Mathematical Society and Mathematical Association of America. For the past several years, W&J students and professors have presented research they conducted together on campus at this meeting. Our department also has resources that enable students to complete summer research.

With this kind of support, math majors like Alexas Iams ’21 are able to land high-profile internships. Alexas interned with NASA’s Langley Research Center on a project related to the on-orbit operation of the Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment III (SAGE III) International Space Station mission.
