Undergraduate Program
The Department of History offers a B.A. in History. The study of history prepares students for informed citizenship in an increasingly complex and interdependent world. Students of history at William & Mary gain an understanding of the human experience around the world and over time. This understanding forms a solid base on which to build many different careers.
Students may major or minor in history. Our introductory courses are open to all students who wish to expand their understanding of global events. All students enrolled in history courses may take advantage of the The Clem History Writing Center. Advanced students may take advantage of opportunities to conduct independent research.
Every year the Department recognizes our majors' outstanding work with a range of financial awards. The Department also offers various funding opportunities for Undergraduate Research. William & Mary also recognizes superior academic achievement with traditional Latin honors and through selection to the Alpha of Virginia Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
Undergraduates in any major may be interested in the NIAHD Program Material Culture & Public History. This program explores the ways in which scholars from many disciplines study early America and material culture. It also examines the equally diverse ways in which they disseminate findings to their audiences.
The history department sponsors events featuring guest lecturers that are open to all students.
