Overview

MASTER OF MUSIC

  • Nazareth University has the only master of music program in New York state with a dual focus on performance and pedagogy. This degree will prepare you well for a performance and private teaching career or for doctoral degree programs in performance and/or pedagogy.
  • Performance training: Develop performance expertise in both solo and chamber music repertoire, including performing a recital in each and in other settings.

Program is Ideal For

Qualified musicians (audition required) with a B.A., B.M., or B.S. degree in music, performance, music education, music therapy, music theory, or music history who want to:

  • Train professionally as a performing artist.
  • Further develop your instrumental or vocal technique
  • Develop teaching artistry on your instrument and its repertoire
  • Pursue doctoral studies in performance and/or pedagogy upon graduation
  • Establish a career as a performing and/or teaching artist
  • Carve an independent musical career path

What to Expect

  • Develop performance expertise in both solo and chamber music repertoire, including performing a recital in each
  • Develop excellence in teaching and leadership practices along with entrepreneurial skills from comprehensive and in-depth inquiry into pedagogy
  • Be trained by professionally active master performing artists/teachers in performance, pedagogy, collaborative music, and career building
  • Gain studio teaching experience in the Nazareth Community Music Program, which serves children to adults
  • Take an optional elective in a related course outside music, such as in business, psychology, dance, language, international studies, or marketing
  • Benefit from Nazareth's Glazer Music Performance Center — a 550-seat, state-of-the-art concert venue designed to highlight the acoustic beauty of large instrumental and vocal ensembles, integrate multi-media collaborations, and enable live recording
